PRE-COUNCIL
MEETINGS
First and third Monday of each month - 3:30pm, City
Council Chambers
150 W. Jefferson Street, 2nd Floor
The Pre-Council meeting is the review session where the Mayor, the
City Manager and City Council discuss items to be considered prior to
an actual vote. At the end of every Pre-Council meeting, the public can address
the Mayor and the City Council, subject to prior scheduling
with the City Clerk. Those wishing to address the City Council with an
issue must call the City Clerk's office at 815.724.3780 by noon on the Thursday
prior to the Pre-Council meeting they wish to attend.

The City Council has the final authority for approving petitions for annexations,
right-of-way vacations, subdivision approval, zoning changes, planned unit
development approvals, and variations of use. The City Council also has the
authority to modify or change city codes and ordinances, or to waive certain
provisions of the City's development regulations. In rendering its decisions,
the Council receives recommendations from the City Manager and the Planning
Commission or the Zoning Board of Appeals.

ABOUT
JOLIET'S GOVERNMENT
Joliet is a home rule city with a
Council-Manager form of government. All matters of local policy and legislation
are determined by the City Council with the Mayor presiding.
The
City Council is made up of five District Council members, three at-large Council
members, and the Mayor, who is also elected at-large.
An
appointed City Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the city. |
